100th birthday of Jackie Robinson; celebration to be held with a tour in 2019

Jackie Robinson is one of the few athletes who has made a name for themselves in the history of American sports, will be turning 100 years old next year.

The Jackie Robinson Foundation has announced that it will celebrate this joyous occasion with a centennial tour in 2019. The foundation announced the news of the tour on Tuesday and the tour will start from 31st January, which is also the birthday of Jackie Robinson. The tour will be held throughout the year and will end in December when the Jackie Robinson Museum will be opened in New York City.




The Museum will help preserve the legacy of a man who broke the color barrier in sports. It will also aid the foundation in their provision of scholarships and education programs. The news was announced by the president and CEO of the Jackie Robinson Foundation; Della Britton Baeza.

The foundation is currently providing 242 scholarships to undergraduate students. The foundation since its foundation back in 1973 has helped about 1500 students of minorities pay for their college.

The Jackie Robinson Museum will be opened near the Freedom Tower and 9/11 memorial which in its own self will be a tribute to Robinson for his impact on civil rights and American culture.

Tour will be held in major cities like New York, Boson, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. Fans will be able to preview some of the exhibitions which will officially be unveiled at the Museum. The traveling exhibition will also make stops at other cities like New Orleans, Cleveland, Detroit, and Indianapolis.
