4th-tier club, Epinal defeats Lille to reach the quarterfinals of French Cup

Epinal, the 4th tier club was able to create another upset tin the French Cup after they defeated the 1st division club like Lille by 2-1 in their Wednesday match. With this win, Epinal has made it to the quarterfinals of the French Cup.

Both goals for Epinal were scored by the team’s captain named Jean-Philippe Krasso. Up next, Epinal could have the last 8 matches against another 4th tier club named Belfort.  Earlier Belfort defeated another one of the first division club named Montpellier in their Tuesday game during the penalty shootout.

Xavier Collin, the coach for Epinal said, “This is magnificent. Tour lads never gave up and they kept on applying all the instructions and they got their reward. We are super happy and are super proud of us.”

The two goals from Krasso were scored in succession dring the 2nd half after the former forward for Chelsea and France Loïc Rémy had given Lille their first goal to take the lead in the game during 8th minute.

Christophe Galter, the coach for Lille said, “You need to congratulate Epinal. We did not deserve much the way we played the game tonight. This is a big disappointment for us. It is a bad night for us and a heavy defeat.”

Lille, which had played the Champions League this season, is currently at the 7th place in the French league standings. Galter, who was angry at his team, could not hold himself from criticizing his own players.

As for other matches of the French Cup, Paris Saint-Germain was not troubled as they cruised to 2-0 victory over their 3rd tier opponents Pau with Neymar on rest and Mbappé never needed to come off the bench.

Marseille also made it to the quarters of the French Cup with their 3-1 home victory over Strasbourg.
