Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia won over the former champion of the Nottingham Open Donna Vekic by 2-6, 7-6 and 7-6 to win her the first title of this season on Sunday.
Garcia, the top-seeded player of the tournament reached the final after defeating her semis’ opponent the American player Jennifer Brady by 4-6, 6-3 and 6-3. She earlier lost her first set against Brady but then recovered in a 2 and half hour long match to make it to the finals.
For the world rank no. 28 Garcia, this was her 7th title win of the career and her 2nd one of the grass court. Her last grass court title win was back in 2016 at Mallorca Open.
Both Vekic and Donna hit 7 aces each while Vekic managed to get all 4 of her break points with Garcia going 2 for 2 on the breakpoints.
The rain-ravaged the tournament for the first 2 days and on the last day it finally subsided. Due to heavy rain on the 1st and 2nd day, organizers of the tournament were forced to have the matches indoors.
Vekic and opponent of quarterfinals Kristina Mladenovic had their match started on grass but were forced to end it indoors.
