Serena Williams is now only one win away from tying the women’s record of the Most Grand Slam titles win after she won her semifinals match at Wimbledon.
Williams, the tennis star with 23 Grand Slam titles in her career is only one title short of tying with Australian female tennis star Margaret Court whose record is 24 and has been standing unbroken since the 1970s.
The former world rank no. 1 was up against the Czech player named Barbora Strycova. However, despite her opponent’s full form, Serena was able to win the match at Centre Court by 6-1 and 6-2 to make it to her 11th finals of the Wimbledon.
The American tennis star is bidding to win her 8th Wimbledon title as she will now take on Romania’s Simona Halep in their finals match.
Williams said, “I really want to do it. I am in a different place now and I was not playing well for the past month. So it is all kind of coming back together.”
Talking about her upcoming opponent Halep, Serena said, “There are so many impressive things about her but one of those main things is her tenacity. It is her ability to keep on improving. She seems to improve with time. She has the ability to find power and you cannot simply underestimate her. She is just like a powerhouse. She has finished the previous year as no. 1 twice in a row. I feel like she is back to get that position and also wants to prove that she can really do it.”
