Former Indian wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel gave a humble reply to a fan who commented on his subtle post for the wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul.
The much-anticipated Test series between India and South Africa is just a day away from now. The match will be played at the Supersport Park in Centurion on 26th December. The Indian combination for the game has almost kept everyone interested but it has been confirmed who will be the keeper.
Indian head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that KL Rahul will be the keeper of the team in the two Tests. The right-hander will for the first time be keeping wickets in Tests and it will be a difficult thing for him to do. This is because he has been keeping in limited overs but to do a job in Tests it takes a lot.
As Rahul Dravid confirmed that KL Rahul will keep wickets, Parthiv Patel was quick to react to it. The former Indian wicketkeeper made a valid point, saying that in Tests keeper should be one who has done that job regularly in the Ranji Trophy.
Taking to his X account , he explained: “India’s test match wicketkeeper should be someone who is keeping regularly in ranji trophy or first-class cricket…”

India have two keepers in the team in KL Rahul and KS Bharat. The latter was added to the team after Ishan Kishan made himself unavailable for the series. But with Rahul being more handy with the bat, it was almost certain that he would play.
KL Rahul has impressed many with his keeping skills in the last few months. He has been spot-on with his catching behind the stumps and his correct DRS calls have been the highlight of his keeping. But keeping it for longer periods will be a huge challenge for him.
Also with red ball having more moments than white, it will be another challenge for KL Rahul behind the stumps to judge the ball. A lot would be dependent on him as a keeper in Tests holds the key for many things.

After Parthiv Patel’s post related to the Indian wicketkeeper for the first game, a fan replied to him and insulted him. The cricket lover highlighted how regular keeper like Patel dropped many catches during the South Africa tour in 2018.

Replying to this, Parthiv Patel took a dig at selectors, saying that a regular keeper like him was dropped from the team. He posted:

Parthiv Patel was part of the Indian squad for the Test series against South Africa. He had a decent outing on that tour as he batted and kept well. However, after that series, he was dropped from the team and didn’t feature again.
