Over a billion hearts were broken when the Indian cricket team lost the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup against Australia after a dominant and ruthless campaign. Team India had the best chance of winning its third ODI World Cup trophy, however, destiny wanted something else and India’s wait for an ICC title didn’t end.

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament and picked up 24 wickets from seven innings. This included three five-wicket hauls and his best performance came against New Zealand in the first semi-final, wherein, he picked up a seven-wicket haul and helped the team make a place in the final.

Mohammed Shami also received praise from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited the Indian dressing room after the loss in the CWC 2023 final against Australia.

Mohammed Shami was rested from the white ball series against South Africa but was ruled out of the Test series due to an injury.

Mohammed Shami’s major comment on CWC 2023 final loss

During a recent media interaction, Indian pacer Mohammed Shami shared details about the team’s environment after the CWC 2023 final loss and stated that the whole nation was disappointed after the Indian team lost the final. Shami added the team tried its best to continue the momentum but at last, he could not explain what went wrong.

Mohammed Shami said (as quoted by ANI), “The whole nation was disappointed (when India lost the World Cup). We tried hundred per cent to continue the momentum till the end that we had created and win the final. But…it cannot be explained, where we went wrong at the end…”

The Indian cricket team was ruthless in the whole 2023 ODI World Cup and had won ten out of ten games ahead of the final. They were just one win away from leveling Australia’s epic record of most wins during a single CWC edition, which they had achieved twice.

The 2023 ODI World Cup was also special in many ways as the Indian team was not dependent on the performance of any single player. In almost every match, the different players won the Player of the Match, which showcased the dominance of the team.

Also, the team didn’t struggle while batting or bowling first and won games even if they lost the toss. The most special match was the semi-final against New Zealand when the Indian team added 397 runs on the board and defeated the Kiwis courtesy of a special spell from Mohammed Shami.

The World Cup was also very special for Indian batsman Virat Kohli as he completed his 50th ODI hundred and surpassed Indian legend, Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli became the only batsman to hit 50 ODI tons and also one of the main contenders to level Sachin’s record of hitting 100 hundreds in international cricket.

Virat Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for his fantastic batting display and was the top run scorer in the whole tournament. Kohli scored 765 runs in the whole tournament and scored runs at an average of 95.62.
