In order for Atlético Madrid to keep their hopes for this year’s Champions League to be alive, they were in need of the win. Then their young player João Félix took it as his responsibility to give his team that much-needed win.
After Kieran Trippier missed his penalty kick only after 2 minutes of the game against Lokomotiv Moscow, Félix took it upon himself to make sure that his team must never falter again after Félix received the penalty again in the 1st half.
Félix, the 20-year-old player of Atlético picked the ball up confidently and placed it in the penalty area. Then, he very calmly made the shot for the low right position of the net to allow for Atlético to grab the 2-0 victory as well as a spot for the Round of 16 for the Champions League.
Diego Simeone, the coach for Atlético said, “When you are young, you do not feel afraid of anything.”
Atlético, the forward from Portugal wanted to make the 1st penalty which came after he got fouled but instead of getting the first chance, the penalty was given to Trippier upon order of Diego Simeone. The reason for giving Trippier the penalty was because as per him the English right-back was the best penalty taker of the team at that time.
After missing the first penalty, Simeone did not make the same mistake twice as he allowed for Félix to come and score the opening goal.
Jorge “Koke” Resurrección, the midfielder of Atlético said, “He has a lot of confidence. When he had his chance, he took advantage of it.”
He leads was taken by Atlético following the 2nd half goal from their defender Felipe. With this win, Atlético holds the 2nd place in Group D while the first place is taken by Juventus.
In the last season of Champion League, Juventus eliminated Atlético from the round of 16.
