ATP Finals at The O2; Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares win opening match of the tournament

On the Sunday’s ATP Finals held at the O2, Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares made a winning start for the doubles match with a victory over Michael Venus and Raven Klassen by 7-6 and 4-6.

As Andy Murray and Kyle Edmund are both absent from the tournament, Andy Murray’s brother Jamie Murray now remains the sole representation from Great Britain at the season-ending event held at the O2. He is playing alongside the Brazilian partner Bruno Soares.

Both of these partners are at world ranking no. 90 and they were up against world no. 14 Australian player Venus and the world rank no. 15 South African paler Klassen. Their match was the first match of the tournament that was held in London on Sunday.

The first set of the match ended at 6-6 and Murray-Soares duo managed to gain the first set victory by 7-5 in the tie-break.

Venus and Klassen started off the second set strongly and were ahead by 2-0 until Soares and Murray managed to tie it a 2-2.

The second set however again ended in the win for Soares and Murray by 6-4 in 42 minutes.

Murray said after the match, “I think we played very well to win the game. It was a battle from the very start.”

Murray and Soares have both won three ATP titles this season with one being won in Mexican Open and other two being won at the Washington Open and Cincinnati Masters. The lost their fourth title at the Shanghai Masters against Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo.
