This decision was made after he was found to have intimidated the umpire during a practice session. However, Sydney Sixers plans to appeal the suspension.

The incident occurred on December 21, 2023, before the BBL match between Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Sixers. Controversy arose when Tom Curran was seen running across the pitch during the pre-match practice session, and the video of the incident was shared on social media, prompting criticism from fans.

Watch – Tom Curran intimidates the umpire

Upon analysis, the fourth umpire intervened and asked Tom Curran to stop, leading to an altercation.

Following the incident, Cricket Australia issued a statement, in which they stated that in the video footage, it was found that Tom Curran was seen running across the pitch despite being stopped by the umpire. Curran also gestured for the umpire to move away from the pitch and attempted a practice run-up toward the umpire, who had to step away to avoid a collision.

After further investigation, Tom Curran was found guilty and charged under article 2.17 of the code of conduct by match referee Bob Parry for intentional intimidation of an umpire.

Despite being banned for four matches, Sydney Sixers has stated that they will appeal against the suspension, maintaining that Curran did not knowingly or intentionally intimidate an official. Tom Curran, who was recently picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2024 auction, will look to improve his performance in the next edition of the tournament.
