Barcelona held to 2-2 draw against last-place Espanyol in Catalan derby at Spanish League

Wu Lei, the Chinese forward of Espanyol scored a late goal to have the game of Espanyol VS Barcelona for the Catalan derby at Spanish League end in a 2-2 draw. This was an unexpected result of the Spanish League game that was held between the best and the worst team of the league.

Barcelona, with their 3rd draw in 4 rounds of Spanish League has left them leveled on the point only halfway into the season with the 2nd placed Real Madrid. Real Madrid had beaten Getafe by 3-0 in their Spanish League game only 3 hours before this draw.

Barcelona is still keeping a lead on the goal difference while Espanyol still remains at the last spot of the Spanish League by winning 19 of their 38 games.

As per the Spanish League, Wu Lei is the first Chinese player to have scored a goal against Barcelona. Wu Lei, the substitute for the Espanyol score this game equalizing goal with only2 minutes to the clock after a goal from Luis Suarez had Barcelona for a 2-1l lead. Espanyol gained the advantage after Frenkie de Jog, Barcelona’s midfielder was sent off on his 2nd yellow card of the game with only 15 minutes till the final whistle.

Suarez said, “The hardest thing to do when you are playing a road game is to turn things around in your favor. I had a feeling that we let these points slip away too easily. Of course, when your rival team is playing with one extra man, they get the boost. Bt still, this cannot be an excuse for the other team.”

Up next, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, and Valencia will be now traveling to Saudi Arabia where they will compete with each other to win the new Spanish Super Cup. The tournament will be held next week.
