Kyle Edmund, the British no. 1, has a consistently poor performance on clay court as he had to suffer an early round exit from the BMW Open in Munich after a defeat of 6-4 and 6-3 against Denis Kudla.
24 years old Edmund, who earlier also failed to progress in Monte Carlo Masters last week, was on losing foot in the opening set as he trailed by 2-4 as Kudla went on to win the first set.
The event’s fifth-seeded player and world rank no. 22, Edmund was still not able to put up a resistance against Kudla.
The world rank 82, Kudla pressed his dominance over Edmund as he completed the victory in 70 minutes.
The 26 years old American player Kudla will now face Matteo Berrettini for the second round match. The Italian player himself progressed to the 2nd round after defeating Denis Istomin by 7-6 and 6-3.
