Not even one of the referees, as well as the judges from the Rio Olympics boxing event, are going to be allowed for officiating at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The decision has been decided by the task force of the International Olympic Committee.

The judges and referees which amount to 36 from the 2016 Olympics got suspended from their duties at the upcoming games after AIBA (International Boxing Association) performed an investigation after may fighter from the Olympic games made allegations that fights were fixed.

While no evidence was found by AIBA’s 2017 investigation into the matter, the new criteria of selection of referees and judges by IOC rule them as ineligible from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Morinari Watanabe, the chairman of the boxing task force said, “The main objective of the IOC boxing task force is to ensure the completion of the mission of delivering events, while putting the boxers first, and with transparent and credible sporting results and fair play.”

For the 2020 Tokyo Olympics boxing event, the judges and referees will be selected from a pool of numerous officials who have are AIBA-certified and have been reviewed to ensure that they meet up to the selection criteria.

After this initial selection, the officials for every boxing match will be selected on random. As for the entire selection process, it will be performed under the supervision of the PwC.
