On the Saturday night fight for the European Super Welterweight title fight, Ted Cheeseman suffered a unanimous points defeat against Sergio Garcia.
The 23 years old Cheeseman suffered the first professional loss of his career despite showing reckless bravery from the opening round. Garcia was able to claim the victory with scores of 119-109, 119-109 and 115-114 at The O2.
Both fighters started with a frenetic pace and nagged each other in close quarters. Garcia had the upper hand as he broke through Cheeseman’s defenses with his barrage of punches.
Cheeseman, who was being reared by his local supporters, tried to make a comeback against the elusive Spaniard who still managed to make Cheeseman missed again and again.
Garcia had a huge smile on his face in the fifth round after taking and withstanding a hook. As for Cheeseman, he was left in his tracks with a right stiff hand in the seventh round.
Cheeseman, the Bermondsey Man, showed his fighting spirit in the eighth as he hammered Garcia with his hooks and uppercuts. However, soon fatigue came over him and his ferocious attack subsided.
In the closing rounds, Garcia regained his command of the fight and only felt troubled momentarily when Cheeseman managed to land some body shots in the 11th round. The final bell signaled the victory for Garcia.
