David Warner scores astounding 166 runs to lead Australia’s win over Bangladesh

David Warner was able to score 166 runs off of 147 balls to lead Australia’s 48-run win over Bangladesh in a World Cup match held at Trent Bridge. With this win, Australia now moves up to the top of the world cup rankings.

The opener of the Australian team needed only 110 balls to make it into three figures. He struggled at first unlike his fluency in the previous matches but then happened upon his usual speed to reach not only his century but to score the highest runs by an individual batsman so far in this world cup tournament.

He shared the century partnership with Aaron Finch who scored 53 runs and Usman Khawaja who scored 89 runs as the final few tough overs of the match allowed Australia to end their inning at 381-5.

Bandages started their chase for the target hard with Mushfiqur Rahim scoring 102 runs not out, which was his highest score in the ODI career so far.

However, all his hard work was in vain after the team completed their innings with all overs at 333-8. With this, any hopes for Bangladesh to make it to the top 4 comes to an end.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and chose to bat first in the match. They started off slowly and calmly as they have done so far in the tournament without a need to boost their destructive batting power in the form of Aaron Finch and David Warner.

Bangladesh gave both these batsmen a tough time with Finch’s wicket falling in the 21st over but by that time, Warner and Finch had secured a 121-run partnership for the 1st wicket.

The innings continued with Khawaja taking a stand with Warner as Warner scored his century in the 35th over.

After scoring 161 runs, he too was dismissed in the same manner as Finch did; chipping away at delivery by Soumya and caught by a third man.
