David Warner’s dominance against Pakistan continued during the second session of the first Test at the Optus Stadium on Thursday.

By the end of the session, Australia had reached a total of 210/3, with Warner and vice-captain Steve Smith still at the crease with scores of 111(149) and 21(34) respectively.

Warner’s century kept Australia in control for most of the day, defying his critics and former teammate Mitchell Johnson, who had questioned his place in the team before the match.

Despite Pakistan managing to restrict Australia’s scoring in comparison to the first session, the hosts still posted 93 runs after losing two wickets, with Marnus Labushagne and Usman Khawaja being the only casualties during the 25 overs bowled.

Earlier in the innings, after Australia won the toss and chose to bat, Warner led the charge with the bat and took advantage of Pakistan’s pace attack, with Khawaja also contributing with some aggressive batting.

Warner continued to score boundaries, and his half-century was well-deserved, leaving the Optus Stadium in awe of his striking display.

Australia ended the session strongly with a total of 117/0 in 25 overs, with Warner’s unbeaten century leading the way.

Brief Score: Australia 210/2 (David Warner 111*, Usman Khawaja 41; Faheem Ashraf 1-44) vs Pakistan.
