On the Saturday night’s big boxing fight between James DeGale and Chris Eubank Jr. Eubank Jr. won over DeGale by points win for the super middleweight title at O2.
Eubank Jr. with his aggressive approach right from the first round forced DeGale to be on the back foot during the fight. Eubank Jr. floored DeGale twice on the floor as he won the match by unanimous points decision win with scores 114-112, 115-112 and 117-109.
Before this fight, there were talks of DeGale retiring from boxing and afterward, the 33 years old boxer also hinted that he might leave the sport after his third defeat of the career.
As for Eubank Jr.; he knew that he cannot suffer any more defeats especially after his high profile losses against Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves. This was the reason the 29 years old boxer took an aggressive approach to this fight as he aimed his spiteful hooks on his opponent’s body since the efforts bell rang.
His looping punches in the second round sent DeGale wobbling backward but Eubank Jr. continued his assault to left his foe shaken and staggering on the ropes that prompted the referee to start the count.
DeGale managed to get into the third round but had to endure more clubbing. However, in the fourth, he showed some crisp counters.
Unfortunately, Eubank Jr. started to reveal his bullish strength in the fifth round as he lifted DeGale off of his feet. The Brighton man showed his specially trained jab in the sixth round.
DeGale tired to reply back with his kills in the 7th round but was replied back in a cluster of punches and forced to retreat back on the ropes by the overwhelming Eubank Jr. in the next few rounds.
Both men bled from cuts around their eyes but held on to fight until the last round.
Pride and courage was the only thing that held DeGale on his feet throughout the fight despite knowing he was on the losing end.
