Dominican Republic’s lead prosecutor says the Ortiz’s shooting was a case of pure mistaken identity

The lead prosecutor of the Dominican Republic said that Former Red Sox’s slugger David Ortiz was to the intended target of the shooting incident that occurred at a nightclub in his home town.

Jean Alain Rodriguez, the attorney general said to media that the intended target was another man who was also dressing similar to Ortiz and was sitting right next to the retired baseball superstar.

Ortiz was shot in his back on the night of June 9th by a man who got off a motorbike at a nightclub located in Santo Domingo.

According to Rodriguez, the shooting hit was called by a member of the Mexican Gulf Cartel who still is on the run.

He said, “we formally inform that the target of this shooting was not Ortiz but was another man who was located at the same place and the very same table. The confusion only occurred due to the photo being taken a few minutes prior to the shooting and was exchanged between the intellectual authors and the perpetrators. The instructed target was actually the friend of Ortiz and was sharing his table with him. The evidence shows both scientifically and unequivocally that this attack was directed straight at the man named Sixto David Fernandez who had been a frequent customer of this establishment and had been visiting it regularly on Sundays.”

Including the alleged shooter, authorities have arrested 11 suspects.

Doctors at the Dominican Republic removed Ortiz’s gall bladder and a part of his intestine before the team from Boston came and flew him back.  There Ortiz’s condition has upgraded from being guarded to good.
