England suffers defeat from Australia and now their World Cup hopes are in jeopardy

In the match between England and Australia for the semifinals run at the ICC World Cup held at Lord’s; England suffered a 64-run loss from Australia.

England was chasing a target of 286 runs at their home pitch but they faltered as they were 26-3 within early six overs of their innings. The recovery for England was only made possible after Ben Stokes struck 89 runs but unfortunately, he fell victim to a Yorker by Mitchell Starc that bowled him out and thus ending England’s further resistance against the Australian bowlers.

With Stokes being ousted out of the play, the English team quickly fell one by one, ultimately all of them getting bowled out at 221.

Earlier, England won the toss and opted to let Australia bat first and thus setting a target of 285-7. This was only made possible after English bowlers could not make full use of their bowling spell in this crucial match. Despite having a favorable condition, the English team was not able to hold back the Australian team.

From Australia’s side, Aaron Finch was the top scorer as he scored a magnificent hundred along with sharing partnership with David Warner who scored 53 runs.

Finch later shared partnership with Steve Smith who unfortunately could only muster up 38 runs and was booed by the crowd at Lord’s. After Aaron Finch’s wicket fell, the flurry of wickets started to fell and they could only manage to score 70 runs off of their last 10 overs.

The target was not that much but still proved too much for England’s batsmen but arguably they were halted by bowling sprees of Jason Behrendorff who got 5 wickets while giving away 44 runs which is a maiden 5 wickets for any bowler in this world cup and the first as well for his 8th OID career match.

The remaining damage was caused by Mitchell Starc who got 4 wickets while giving away 43 runs causing England to come short on their target chase.
