Federer says Big Three can face a new next-gen challenger in 2020

After being a dominant force in tennis, Roger Federer believes that soon the Big Three of the tennis are going to face a new next-gen challenger for the season of 2020.

The season of 2019 for Federer ended in a defeat for his semifinals match against Stefanos Tsitsipas during the ATP Finals. With Federer out of the play, this concluded the elimination for all 3 Big Three of the tennis including Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

21 years old Greek tennis sensation Tsitsipas was playing at the ATP Finals for the very first time. He was amongst the handful of the new talent into this season-ending tournament which ended with all major names of tennis getting ousted until the semis.

Other champions for the ATP finals included Alexander Zverev, the defending champion, and Daniil Medvedev; the runner up for this year’s US Open.

Still, this is not the first time that Federer has talked in such a way out talented cream of the tennis world as even the previous ones had been unable to break the dominion of these Big Three.

Talking about the New Generation, Federer said, “It is the same question at the end of the year. But I feel that this was the best year yet. But then I take a look at the world no. 1 and the year-end no. 1 and it is always one of us for so many past years. But we are not getting any younger.”

Nadal was able to be the year-end no. 1 for the 5th time in his career which levels him for the title with both Federer and Novak. Other than these three, the only other player to end as year-end no. 1 was Andy Murray who won the title back in 2016.
