Fever-Tree Championships: Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez win the doubles title

Andy Murray, the Comeback King after making his return form a career ending hip surgery, was able to celebrate the win with his partner Feliciano Lopez for the Doubles title at the Fever-Tree Championships in Queen’s Club.

It was five months ago that the British former no. 1 had feared that the French Open would be his last tournament but bow he and his partner defeated the men’s doubles team of the final; Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury by 7-6, 5-7, and 10-5 to lift the trophy.

Earlier on the day, Lopez also won his own men’s singles title at the Fever-Tree Championships and had to take a rest of only 40 minutes before walking back to the court. Once there he helped Murray to win his first doubles title since he won the last back in 2011 with his brother Jamie Murray at Japan Open.

Murray said to media on his on-court interview, “It has been really brilliant and I have enjoyed it too. I was relaxed at the start of the tournament but as it progressed, I started to get nervous with each match. As for my hip, there was absolutely no pain there and I will try to keep getting better from here on. I am so happy to be back on grass.”

Murray talked about Lopez’s achievement as he said, “there is nothing to say except that he was really brilliant. His win at the singles was amazing and then he came here to deliver some amazing serves and returns.  He did so well on court, I am very happy for him.”

With this win, the former world rank no. 1 and the winner of three Grand Slam titles, Murray has now collectively won 6 titles here at Queen’s Club.

Up next, Murray will be partnering up with Marcelo Melo in Eastbourne and after that he will partner up with Pierre-Hugues Herbert for the doubles matches at Wimbledon.
