The Saturday night WNBA’s game between Phoenix Mercury and Dallas Wings held at the Talking Stick Resort Arena had an all-out brawl incident during the 4th quarter of the game. The brawl started out after Brittney Grier, the center for Mercury chased after rookie of Wings; Kristine Anigwe.
This incident started out with 6:23 left to the round and Mercury having the lead of 71-68.
After the lengthy video review, both Anigwe and Griner were ejected along with other players like Briann January and Dianna Taurasi of Mercury and Kaela Davis and Kayla Thornton of Wings.
Many of this ejection was only because of leaving the bench like the Taurasi who was not playing due to injury but was involved in a fight the second game in a row. On Thursday’s game against Los Angeles, she drew a technical foul from the bench.
Taurasi said, “Today I went on the court for making sure that my teammates were not jumped on. Griner took a punch to the face and someone then also ran on her back and threw in more punches at her face. I would do what I did 100 of 100 times.
As for Griner, she did not spoke after the game.
Brian Alger, the coach of Wings said, “The fight tonight was unfortunate. It did not help any team but still, these kinds of things do happen.”
The game, however, later ended with Dallas winning it by 80-77. With this Mercury falls behind by 11-2 on the season while Dallas now improves by 7-17.
