It was a finish to remember at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Rookie Steven Fisk, making just his 24th PGA Tour start, delivered two clutch birdies on the final two holes to claim his first-ever Tour victory.
Playing alongside South Africa’s Garrick Higgo in the final round, Fisk began the day two shots behind. By the turn, he was only one back, and when Higgo bogeyed the 10th and 11th, the stage was set for a thrilling back-nine showdown.
Higgo, a two-time Tour winner, fought back with four straight birdies from holes 13 to 16, but Fisk answered with a stunning 41-foot putt to stay level. Then came his closing brilliance: a wedge shot to two feet on 17 and an approach to three feet on 18, sealing the win with birdies on both holes.
Fisk signed off with a spectacular 8-under 64, finishing at 24 under par. “I came out today with the mindset that nothing was going to stop me,” Fisk said afterward. “I felt like I’d be standing right here as the winner before the round even started.”
For Fisk, this victory carries even deeper meaning. Earlier this year, he lost his father, while his caddie, Jay Green, once worked with Grayson Murray, who tragically passed away last year. “I think my dad and maybe even Grayson helped a couple of those putts drop,” Fisk reflected. “I know he’d be proud of how I stayed composed and finished strong.”
Ranked 183rd in the world and sitting 145th in the FedEx Cup standings before this week, Fisk now secures his Tour card through 2027. Beyond the exemption, prize money, and prestige, this win represents resilience, belief, and a moment that will stay with him forever.
