The 9th seeded player from Ukraine at French Open, Elina Svitolina got a walkover to the third round of the tournament on Wednesday.
Elina Svitolina was due for a match against her fellow countrywoman Kateryna Kozlova but Kateryna Kozlova was forced to withdraw from the match following a viral infection.
Next, Svitolina will play against the former winner of the French open Garbine Muguruza. Muguruza set the third round match after she got her 6-4 and 6-1 victory over the Swedish player Johanna Larsson in which she shot 16 winners.
Muguruza, who is seeded 19th this year, has earlier won the French Open title back in 2016 when she defeated Serena Williams in the final.
Muguruza said, “Maybe it is a bit too early to play against her but too bad. It will be a very interesting match to be played against her. I think it is a great third round match for both of us. Personally, it is a type of match that I would like to play.”
As for the 7th seeded player Sloane Stephens, she struck 24 winners on her way to beat Sara Sorribes Tormo by 6-1 and 7-6 on the Philippe-Chatrier court to move into the 3rd round.
As for the world rank no. 20 Elise Mertens, she was in her best condition as she defeated the 16 years old French wildcard Diane Parry by 6-1 and 6-3.
The 2nd seeded player Karolina Pliskova has also been making surging progress at the French Open after she only needed 56 minutes to beat Kristina Kucova by 6-2 and 6-2.
