Georgiev stops Golden Knights as New York Rangers win by 5-0

Playing in place of New York Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist, the fist winningest goalie in the history of NHL, Alexandar Georgiev was aware that he needs to perform well as the backup goalie for the team.

Georgiev indeed played like a true champion goalie as he made 38 saves for the New York Rangers in their 2ns shutout win of the season against the Vegas Golden Knights by 5-0.

Georgiev said, “He has been playing great and I know that I have to play really good to get the playing time as well.”

Georgiev recorded his first shutout win for the New York Rangers back on November 30th when the team defeated New Jersey to win 4 of their last 5 games at the time.  It was the 23rd career shutout victory for Georgiev.

New York Rangers players Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider scored the first two goals respectively for the team with only 14 seconds apart in the 1st period. The other 2 goals were scored Jacob Trouba and Jesper Fast respectively in the second period and then the last goal was scored in the 3rd period by Mika Zibanejad.

Georgiev said of his team and their performance, “Really a fast team and the building gave them a lot of energy tonight.  I was only trying to weather the strong for them and then the guys came up strong with the first goal and then the 2nd one right after it. We started playing better and better as the game went on.”

Lundqvist has 456 wins so far in his career as a goalie whereas Georgiev, who just started his career, has 26 wins but he is looking more and more like a veteran each day. For the past 174 shots, Georgiev has faced, he has stopped 169 of them during his last 7 appearances as the goalie of New York Rangers.

Up next for Rangers on their 4-game road trip, they will play the 2nd game on Tuesday night in Los Angeles.  As for the Vegas Golden Knights, they will also be planning a game on Tuesday night as they host Chicago.
