In the 2nd round match of the Pan Pacific Open, played between Camila Giorgi and the third seed of the tournament, Sloane Stephens, Giorgi only lost 3 games to defeat her opponent by 6-0 and 6-3.
Giorgi, the unseeded player of the tournament who made it all the way to semifinals last year was able to win over the champion of 2017’s US Open to set the quarterfinal match with Elise Mertens of Belgium.
Giorgi said, “it was a great match for sure and I was able to play my full game here as I showed off my attack style and the consistency in the game. When I play tennis, I always keep my focus on myself. I only make a few mistakes. This has been the ay ever since I was a little girl. His type of attack and forward play suits my game.”
In other matches of the day, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated the 2nd seeded Kiki Bertens by 6-1 and 7-5 to reach the quarterfinals and said that her win was a tough one.
As for the wildcard entry Misaki Doi, she defeated Donna Vekic, the 7th seed of the tournament by 7-6 and 6-3 to be the quarterfinal opponent for Pavlyuchenkova.
Kazakh Yulia Putintseva will be facing the top seeded player of the Pan pacific, Naomi Osaka for the quarterfinals who defeated Varvara Flink by 6-1 and 6-1.
Somewhere else in the Korean Open, Karolina Muchova, the 3rd seed of the tournament was able to make into her season’s 3rd quarterfinal after defeating Timea Babos by 6-2 and 6-3.
As for the Guangzhou International held in China, Sofia Kenin, the 3rd seed of the event was able to top Jasmine Paolini by 7-5 and 7-6 to make it to the semifinals. Kenin will be facing Anna Blinkova in the semifinals.
In the other semifinal of the tournament, Samantha Stosur will play against Viktorija Golubic.
