In a fight held at the College Park Center located in Arlington, Texas on Saturday night between José Ramirez and Maurice Hooker; Ramirez came on top to unify the super-lightweight titles.
Ramirez already the holder of the WBC title added the WBO title to his name after he won by stoppage against Hooker in the 6th round of the fight held in Maurice’s home town. this was the first defeat of Maurice in front of a home crowd in Texas.
Hooker was off-balanced at the start of the fight and the 26 years landed a heavy punch which wrongfully credited him with a knout verdict. However, it was only that Hooker’s foot had been trodden on.
Hooker started the 2nd round with front foot as he used his long jab to his advantage. As for Ramirez, he equally replied back with his heavy shots to have Hooker on ropes. Ramirez landed in some devastating hooks to Hooker’s body and then to his head.
3rd round saw the hometown hero landing a shot to the body and then to the head before Ramirez launched his own combination. As the bell was sounded, both fighters were still equally trading shots.
The 4th round was an evenly fought one but 5th was in favor of Ramirez who caught Hooker on the head with a left hook and then hurting him some more with a body shot. Hooker stayed strong as he caught the Californian fighter with his swinging shots.
The action-packed 6th round saw Ramirez sending Hooker towards ropes on staggering feet after landing in a heavy hook shot to the head.
This blow was then followed by Ramirez with a string of headshots at which point the referee of the fight Mark Nelson intervened and stopped the fight at the mark of 1:48.
