Hopman Cup; Katie Boulter and Cameron Norrie of Great Britain defeated Serena Williams and Frances Tiafoe of the USA

The Hopman Cup final ended with Great Britain’s Katie Boulter and Cameron Norrie defeating their US opponents, Serena Williams and Frances Tiafoe in the mixed doubles.

The British pair was able to win by 3-4, 4-3 and 4-1 in the deciding rubber match after the singles matches were split.

Norrie earlier ended the Tiafoe’s bid in the tournament by 7-6 and 6-0 who just won one set in the three matches.

Williams who was warming up for the upcoming Australian Open stepped up her game as she defeated Katie Boulter in straight sets win to compete in the unbeaten Hopman Cup campaign in the singles.

The American managed to cool off her strong start but still maintained a 6-1 and 7-6 victory in a mere 78 minutes to make it a tie between the US and Great Britain in the Group B.

The 37 years old Williams’ victory over Katie Boulter is followed by victories over other former top 10 players like Belinda Bencic and Greece’s Maria Sakkari earlier in the week.

Williams after her singles matches said, “It was great to play the three singles matches here and the mixed ones too. It was perfect. It’s just like this in Melbourne. The exact same sun gives me trouble thee. After you serve you are blind for the next two points. So it was really good to play the three singles matches here not to mention the mixed doubles.”
