A jersey of babe Ruth has broke the record for being the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia earlier on Sunday as it sold for a sum of 5.64 million dollars.
The jersey in question has been known for being used by Babe Ruth of the New York Yankees from years 1928 to 1930. This jersey broke the record for the 4.4 million dollars which was also set by another one of the Babe Ruth jerseys which he wore back in 1920.
David Hunt, the president of the Hunt Auctions said, “While the record setting prices for these times today are indeed astonishing, I am not all surprised at all the materials and their statuses in relation to Babe Ruth who holds a mythical status in the history of USA.”
Hunt Auctions held their auction on Saturday in partnership to Babe Ruth’s family where 400 items were present for auction and one of which was the expensive Jersey. As for the name of the buyer, it has not been revealed.
As for babe Ruth, he still remains as one of the greatest players in the history of baseball for then scoring a record of 117 homeruns over his career that spanned in between 1914 to 1935. This also includes him wining the 4 World Series title.
