Kane scores as Bayern beat RB Leipzig in German Cup

Harry Kane once again proved decisive as Bayern Munich secured a place in the German Cup semi-finals for the first time in six years, defeating RB Leipzig in a hard-fought contest at the Allianz Arena. The England captain continued his impressive scoring form, converting a crucial penalty before Luis Diaz sealed the victory with a second goal to confirm Bayern’s progression.

The result marks a significant achievement for the Bundesliga champions, who had not reached the last four of the domestic cup competition since 2020. With Kane leading the line in exceptional form, Bayern look determined to add more silverware to their collection this season.

Kane’s contribution came from the penalty spot, calmly dispatching his effort to register his sixth goal in just four German Cup appearances this campaign. That strike also raised his overall tally for Bayern Munich to an extraordinary 39 goals in 34 matches across all competitions — a remarkable record that places him as the top scorer among players in Europe’s five major leagues.

The goal further extended his dominance against RB Leipzig specifically. Including a previous hat-trick, Kane has now scored five times against the Saxony-based club this season alone, underlining his consistency and ability to deliver in key fixtures.

Although Bayern ultimately secured a two-goal victory, the match was far from straightforward. Leipzig started brightly and nearly stunned the home crowd inside the opening minutes. Just four minutes into the contest, Christoph Baumgartner found the back of the net with a sharp finish, momentarily silencing the Allianz Arena.

However, Leipzig’s celebrations were short-lived. Following a review by the video assistant referee (VAR), the goal was ruled out for offside, offering Bayern a significant reprieve. The decision proved pivotal, as it prevented Leipzig from gaining early momentum in what was already shaping up to be a tense encounter.

Bayern responded by applying sustained pressure. Kane was at the center of the action, nearly breaking the deadlock when his shot was cleared dramatically off the goal line by Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba after goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt had made an initial save. The visitors survived that scare, but Bayern continued to push forward.

Joshua Kimmich’s delivery from a corner created another opportunity, only for Ridle Baku to intervene with a crucial defensive header. The Bundesliga leaders were relentless, with Aleksandar Pavlovic, Kane, and Serge Gnabry all testing Vandevoordt in quick succession. The Leipzig goalkeeper produced several impressive saves to keep his side in the contest during a dominant Bayern spell.

Despite their territorial advantage and attacking intent, Bayern had to remain patient. Leipzig’s defensive structure and quick transitions ensured that the match remained finely balanced deep into the second half.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 64th minute. Josip Stanisic burst into the penalty area and was brought down by Vandevoordt, leaving the referee with little hesitation in awarding a spot-kick. Kane stepped up with composure and precision, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to open the scoring.

The goal lifted Bayern’s confidence and shifted the momentum decisively. Just four minutes later, they doubled their advantage through former Liverpool winger Luis Diaz. Michael Olise delivered a precise pass into the box, and Diaz reacted sharply, beating Willi Orban to the ball before slotting home his 19th goal of the season.

Diaz’s strike effectively ended Leipzig’s hopes of mounting a comeback. While the visitors had competed strongly for large portions of the match, Bayern’s clinical finishing ultimately made the difference.

For Kane, the evening added yet another chapter to his extraordinary debut season in Germany. Since his high-profile transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, he has seamlessly adapted to life in the Bundesliga. His scoring rate has exceeded expectations, and his leadership qualities have further strengthened Bayern’s attacking unit.

Being the top scorer among players in Europe’s top five leagues is a testament not only to Kane’s finishing ability but also to his consistency. Whether in league matches, cup competitions, or European fixtures, he has delivered goals with remarkable regularity.

Bayern’s progression to the semi-finals will boost morale within the squad as they pursue multiple trophies. As current Bundesliga champions and leaders, they are already in a strong domestic position. Advancing in the German Cup keeps their hopes of a domestic double alive.

Leipzig, meanwhile, can take some positives despite elimination. Their early attacking intent and defensive resilience for much of the contest showed they remain a competitive force. However, they lacked the clinical edge required to capitalize on their opportunities.

The Allianz Arena crowd witnessed a high-intensity battle between two of Germany’s strongest sides. Ultimately, Bayern’s superior depth and finishing power proved decisive.

With Kane spearheading the attack and Diaz adding consistent contributions, Bayern appear well-equipped for the challenges ahead. The semi-final stage presents another opportunity to edge closer to lifting the German Cup for the first time in several seasons.

As the campaign progresses, Kane’s scoring streak will continue to attract attention across Europe. His ability to perform in crucial moments reinforces his reputation as one of the world’s elite forwards.

Bayern’s fans will now look forward to the semi-final draw with optimism, confident that their team has both the experience and firepower to go all the way.
