Katarina Johnson-Thompson has been nominated to be the winner of the IAAF World Athlete of the Year award

Katarina Johnson-Thompson, the world heptathlon champion from Britain has been nominated as one of the possible winners of the IAAF World Athlete of the Year award.

  




The 26 years old Katarina Johnson-Thompson has won the indoor pentathlon title in the European Championship back in March which allowed her to be one of the 11 nominees for this women’s category.

On the other hand, her fellow British athlete Dian Asher-Smith has been denied the nomination for the IAAF World Athlete of the Year award despite having won 3 of the World Championships meads. She won the gold in the 200m race along with winning 2 silver medals at the 100m and the 4*100m relay event.

As for in the men’s category one nominee is Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya, who became the first person to have run a marathon under 2 hours. He along with the American sprinter named Christian Coleman, who became the 100m world champion, are the front runners for the IAAF World Athlete of the Year award.

The winners for the award in both categories are due to be announced in a ceremony that will be held on December 23rd in Monaco.

The male nominees for the World Athlete of the year are as follows.

Donavan Brazier, Christian Coleman, Joshua Cheptegei, Timothy Cheruiyot, Steven Gardiner, Sam Kendricks, Eliud Kipchoge, Noah Lyles, Daniel Stahl, Christian Taylor, Karsten Warholm

The female nominees for the World Athlete of the year are as follows.

Beatrice Chepkoech, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Sifan Hassan, Brigid Kosgei, Mariya Lasitskene, Malaika Mihambo, Dalilah Muhammad, Salwa Eid Naser, Hellen Obiri, Yulimar Rojas.
