Khabib Nurmagomedov wins over Dustin Poirier by submission in their lightweight unification clash at UFC 242

The unification for the lightweight title fight was held at The Arena which is located at the Yas Island in Abu Dhabi for the UFC 242 between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier.

Poirier, whose career record is 25-6 MMA and 17-5 UFC, was coming to this fight as the interim champion and opened for the fight with few light kicks. After a short while his opponent, Nurmagomedov, whose career record is 28-0 MMAS and 14-0 UFC, stepped up the fight after having brief pause against the fence.

He dragged Poirier to the canvas and took his back and attempted for a neck crank. Poirier survived this attempt but Nurmagomedov smashed him and then went in for a face crank which Poirier was again able to pull through.

Nurmagomedov kept on pounding his opponent from the back and as Poirier tired to make a comeback he was mounted up against the fence where he was on the end of receiving a barrage of elbows and was only saved by the horn.

Despite getting pummeled in the first round, Poirier talked with his corner smiling and came to the second round with fierceness but only to again not getting better of his Russian opponent.

Poirier attempted for a fly kick which missed and once more was Poirier taken to the mat where Nurmagomedov worked with his grapples and refused to give Poirier any chance to go separate himself against the cage.

Poirier got out of chokehold and tired to perform a takedown and followed by a guillotine choke on Nurmagomedov but Nurmagomedov was able to get out his hold to gain the approval of crowd.

After he escape grip of Poirier, Nurmagomedov got back up quickly and locked in a rear choke hold on Poirier that Poirier was able to defend.

But Nurmagomedov attempted the same move and was successful in squeezing his opponent and to force him to tap out at mark of 2:06 of the third round.
