Pranav Soorma of Haryana has broken his Asia Para Games record to win gold in the F51 category men’s club throw at the Khelo India Para Games 2023. Soorma threw a distance of 33.54 metres at the JLN Stadium, surpassing his previous record.

Soorma also won gold in Hangzhou with an effort of 30.01 metres, breaking the previous Asian record held by India’s Dharambir of 31.09 metres.

Soorma’s journey into para sports is a remarkable testament to his incredible determination and resilience. After enduring a life-altering accident at the age of 16, which left him with a spinal cord injury and paralysis, he made the courageous choice to pursue a career in sports in 2018.

In the same event, Ram Ratan Singh of Uttar Pradesh won a Silver with a throw of 25.43m and the bronze medal went to Tamil Nadu’s Alexander M who threw a distance of 25.28m.

At the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, Vijay Singh Kuntal of Rajasthan won the 10m air rifle gold with an aggregate score of 618.3 in the SH2 category. Satya Janaradhana Sridhar Rayala of Telangana took silver with a score of 607.5 and Dalbir Singh of Punjab won bronze with 604.3.

Additionally, three more gold medals were decided on Wednesday. Mona Agarwal of Rajasthan claimed the Gold medal in 10m Air Rifle Standing Women SH-1 with a score of 619.7, while Swaroop Unhalkar of Maharashtra won the 10M air rifle for SH1 category. In Women’s 10m Air Pistol Standing SH-1, Madhya Pradesh’s Rubina Francis took the Gold medal.

In the Para powerlifting 61kg elite category, Seema Rani of Punjab won gold with a lift of 88kg, while Zainab Khatoon of UP (80 kg) and M. Nathiya of Tamil Nadu (72kg) won silver and bronze, respectively.
