Luke Laufenberg, the TE of the UTEP Miners and son of the former Cowboys quarterback Babe Laufenberg, died due to cancer

The 21 years sold Luke Laufenberg who was the tight end of the UTEP died earlier on Thursday after his 2 years-long battle with Leukemia. He was diagnosed for cancer after 6 months of being introduced as the star of the UTEP but it went away but after 4 months his illness came back.

Laufenberg was participating in the spring training with Miners when he learned on April 4th that his Burkitt Lymphoma has come back and finally on July 12 he learned that his condition was now terminal.

Luke Laufenberg is the son of the NFL team Dallas Cowboys’ radio announcer and their former QB Babe Laufenberg.

The coach of the UTEP named Jake Waters talked with Laufenberg last week and said, “having been through what he is suffering from, his first question from me was ‘how is the team doing?’ how are the tight ends and fullbacks doing? Can I get a tape to watch my brothers playing? To see how my guys are doing?”

Waters continued, “He followed us through Ruidoso and followed on everything. His first thoughts were how his brothers were doing. This tells you what kind of a man Luke Laufenberg was.”

Luke passed away at about 3 am on the Thursday morning and another coach of the UTEP Dana Dimel gathered the team for prayer for Luke.

He was first diagnosed with cancer back on 26th December 2017 and he underwent extensive chemotherapy. He lost weight causing him to b at 140 pounds from his original 230 pounds and his remission was declared on May 3rd. for the next 11 months, he worked hard and gained back his health and then signed up with the UTEP.

At the time of his signing, Luke said, “I am back to my normal life. It is as if nothing ever happened. Everything is back to normal and I am back where I should have been.”
