Maharashtra Open in Pune; Ivo Karlovic becomes oldest man in more than four decades to reach an ATP final

The veteran tennis player, Ivo Karlovic has become the first man in four decades to b ht oldest man to have reached the finals of an ATP Final after beating his opponent Steve Darcis at the Maharashtra Open in Pune.

Karlovic, who is going to be 40 years old next month followed in the footsteps of the legendary Australian player Ken Rosewall who managed to reach the tour level final at the age of 43 back in 1977.

Karlovic, the 6 feet 11 inches tall player defeat Darcis of Belgium by 7-6, 4-6 and 6-3 in the first semifinal match of the tournament which was held in India.

Karlovic, after his win, said to media, “yes I am aware that I am old. But I am also happy that I am still here and I have won after all these years with many injuries and ups and downs. What I am able to do here is unbelievable. I have been calm and it has helped my career.”

Karlovic Is currently ranked as World no. 100 and in his 55 minute s match, he hit 33 aces against Darcis. Darcis missed the most of 2018 due to his injury.

Karlovic, who has reached the 7th of his 19 ATP Toru Finals will now face the world rank no. 6 Kevin Anderson who defeated his opponent Gilles Simon of France by 6-3 and 7-6.
