Rafael Nadal, in his 22nd meeting against Stan Wawrinka, was able to beat him for the 22nd time and this time at the Paris Master by 6-4 and 6-4. With this win, Nadal now moves into the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters.
Nadal said, “My serve and volley worked really well today. I went to the net a couple of times with my volley and serve.”
The world rank no. 2 Nadal was briefly troubled by his opponent during the 1st set and also needed a little medical assistance during the 2nd set for his stomach pain.
Nadal said of his problem, “it is nothing important. During the match, I was feeling a little pain and asked the doctor if he can give me something to feel better.”
Up next, for Nadal in the quarters of Paris Masters is the match against Jo Wilfried Tsonga. If Nadal can win the Paris Masters this year, he will be set for the year-end world rank no. 1 spot for the 5t time in his career.
Earlier Tsonga reached the quarters by beating Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany by 2-6, 6-4 and 7-6.
In the career meeting s of Nadal VS Tsonga, Nadal leads by 9-4. Tsonga’s major win against Nadal was for the 2008’s Australian Open where he lost the title against Novak Djokovic.
As for Novak Djokovic, the current world rank no. 1, he is trying to finish as the world no. 1 for the 6th time in his career by winning the Paris Masters. He is on course of meeting Nadal in the finals of the Paris Masters if he continues his winning streak.
Djokovic, the 4 times winner of the Paris Masters reached the quarterfinals by beating Kyle Edmund for a 7-6 and 6-1 win.
Djokovic will now be facing Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Paris masters’ quarters who earlier defeated Alex de Minaur by 6-3 and 6-4.
In other matches of the Paris Masters round three, Denis Shapovalov got a 6-2, 5-7, and 6-2 win over Germany’s Alexander Zverev.
Denis Shapovalov will now be facing Gale Monfils who reached the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters with a 4-6, 6-4 and 6-1 win over Radu Albot.
