Osaka beats Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to win her career’s first title on Japanese soil, the Pan Pacific Open

In the Sunday’s final of the Pan pacific Open, played between Naomi Osaka and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Osaka was able to defeat her opponent by 6-2 and 6-3 to win the tournament. This is the first singles title win for Naomi since she won the ultra Open title back in January.

This is also the first ever career singles title that Osaka has won in front of her home crowd in Japan. The former world rank no. 1 was able to break the serve of her opponent twice under the strong support of her home crowd as she took the opening set in only half an hour.




Top seed, Osaka did not let her pressure down even in the 2nd set as she denied the Russian nay chance to gain an advantage and close the set with an ace.

She has previously only been the runner-up of the tournament when she participated in 2016 and 2018 and this was her 4th appearance.  She has won back to back Grand Slam finals at the US Open and last year and Australian Open this year.

As for the Korean Open’s final between Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova and Poland’s Magda Linette, it ended with the defeat for Linette.

Muchova, the no. 3 seed at the tournament was able to defeat her 4th seeded opponent by 6-1 and 6-1.
