Pakistan wins over Afghanistan and move past England on the World Cup table

In a nervy match of the world cup at Headingley between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Pakistan was able to grab a three-wicket victory over Afghanistan to move ahead of the World Cup hosts England on the points table at the 4th place to hold the final semifinals spot.

England is now going to play their penultimate group match against India on Sunday.

Afghanistan seemed to have put Pakistan in a troubled spot after they held them at 156- 6 as they were chasing a target of 228 runs for the win. When down the slumps, it was Imad Wasim and his 49 runs, who also was earlier able to avoid an lbw at 1 run mark, led the team’s win and move them past England.

Afghanistani fast bowlers were splendid as they took 7 wickets of the Pakistani batsmen at Headingley. Rashid Kahn of the Afghanistani team took 1 wicket while giving away 50 runs in 10 over.

However, the later replays showed that he might have had gotten the crucial, wicket in the 37th over as well. That was his lbw appeal shout for Imad Wasim which was not given to him by the umpire Paul Wilson.

Following this crucial save, Imad Wasim was able to later cash in during the 46th over delivered by Gulabdin Nabi as he scored 18 runs off of him despite Shadab Kahn getting run out during the 47th over.

Still, at the end of the day, the victory was handed to Pakistan with Wasim scoring a match-winning 4 in the last over with 2 balls to spare.

As for Pakistan’s bowlers, Shaheen Afridi once again stunned the audience as he took 4 wickets of the Afghan batsmen while giving away 47 runs. He was the one that majorly held off the Afghan batsmen at 227-9 in their batting innings.

Pakistan is now hoping a favor from India as if they beat England on Sunday, it will solidify Pakistan’s place for the semifinals with them already going for their final game against Bangladesh on Friday next week.
