Pakistan wins over Bangladesh by 94 runs but still failed to make it to the semi-finals

Teenage fast bowler of Pakistan Shaheen Afridi claimed bets world cup record for Pakistan to lead their 94-run victory over Bangladesh in a match held at Lord’s.

19 years old Afridi was able to gain his career best of 6 wickets while giving away mere 35 runs as he totaled 16 wickets in this tournament’s five matches. Bangladesh was massively held back on their target chase by Afridi as they failed to reach the target of 315-9 by Pakistan by their whole bating order crumbling at 221 runs.

Afridi was not the only one from Pakistan to shine as Imam Ul Haq scored his century in this match to become the youngest Pakistani player to score the World Cup century.

Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was also among the best players of tonight as he grabbed 5 wickets of Pakistani batsmen while giving away 75 runs. As for the Bangladeshi team’s batting order, Shakib Al Hasan scored 64 runs to become the first batsmen in this tournament to move past the mark of 600 runs.

Pakistan came to this match fully aware that they need a win by a minimum of 316 runs in order for them to take the spot of New Zealand in the semifinals. Despite winning the toss and choosing to bat first, their mission which was improbable at first became impossible as the match progressed.

Their opener Fakhar Zaman fell after scoring 13 runs while Babar Zama scored 96 runs all the while sharing a 157 runs partnership with Imam Ul Haq.

While Babar Azam wicket fell to a yorker by Mohammad Saifuddin Imam Ul Haq was not at all troubled on his way to score his 7th career ODI century off 99 deliveries but soon he fell too at delivery by Mustafizur.

After making it to 315-9, Pakistani team needed to bowl Bangladeshi team out by 7 runs or less in order for them to progress to semifinals.  This score was made rather quickly and after that, it was all about the match and the efforts of players towards their respective nations.

With this match, the knockout stage matches for both Bangladesh and Pakistan conclude and now these teams will head back home.
