Scotland emerged as the winners of the ICC European U-19 Championship in Glasgow despite persistent rain causing only two matches to be completed in the three-day tournament.
Scotland and Ireland both won their opening matches on Tuesday, finishing on the same points. However, Scotland secured the title with a higher net run-rate, dethroning the defending champion.
On the opening day, Scotland achieved a convincing nine-wicket victory over Denmark at Hamilton Crescent. They bowled Denmark out for 91 runs in 22.3 overs and successfully chased the target in 17.2 overs, only losing one wicket in the process.
Scotland scored their runs quickly, allowing them to lead the table ahead of their Irish counterparts based on net run rate after the first day’s play.
Defending champions Ireland started their title defense strongly with a nine-wicket win over Netherlands at Greenock.
The persistent rain on the second day disrupted the fixtures, preventing Scotland’s match against the Netherlands at Greenock CC from starting, and leading to the abandonment of Ireland’s clash with Denmark after 22 overs with Denmark at 75 for 6.
