Tim Seifert managed to score 84 runs off 43 balls as New Zealand won the opener T20I match against India with the highest runs win.
Seifert’s efforts in this match were only further backed by Colin Munro (34) and Kane Williamson (34). All of them helped the Black Caps to have 216-9 in the 20 overs as afterward, the Indian team bowled out at 139. Daryl Mitchell, who was making his first international T20 debut, took the last wicket of India in the last over of the match.
New Zealand picked Tim Southee as their choice of bowlers while Lockie Ferguson dropped the crucial wicket of Shikhar Dhawan at 29 points just as the best opener of India was opening to fire runs. The top scoring batsman from India was MS Dhoni who scored 39 points but even he could not do anything because the tourists were long beaten before he got out in the final over.
Seifert, in the match, reached his first T20I half-century from 30 balls. After Seifert and Williamson were both dismissed from the pitch, Ross Taylor and Scott Kuggeleijn helped New Zealand go past the 200 runs mark and beyond.
Indian team’s captain, Rohit Sharma was chased out early from the match as Ferguson tried and got rid of Shikhar Dhawan in the final over of the powerplay with a Yorker. This was not before Mitchell Santer removed both Rishabh Pant and Vijay Shankar within three balls of the same over.
After Ish Sodhi struck twice in the 11th over, the game was all over for India. Dhoni, who tried to bat through the 19th over, could do nothing to claim victory for Ida as the required rate had risen with time.
New Zealand, who was already assured of their victory, only concluded the match with Mitchell bowling out Yuzvendra Chahal in the final over to seal the victory.
