The Saturday night boxing match between Takam VS Gashi ended with a seventh-round knockout win for Carlos Takam who kept his hope alive for another major heavyweight fight.
The France-based Cameroonian fighter let go of the bad memories of his crushing defeat against Derek Chisora at the very same venue where he on Saturday night floored Senad Gashi on three different occasions to gain his victory.
Takam had also previously fought a hard 10-round battle against the world champion Anthony Joshua at O2 before losing and calling out for a return to Britain with a rematch against Chisora.
In the thrilling opener, Takam pushed forward with his few hooks as the watchful Gashi remained on his back foot.
With Takam pushing forward in the second round, Gashi responded with his on flurry of eye-catching pouches. However, German fighter had to remain on the lookout for a looping hook in the third round.
Gashi was evading the crude footwork of Takam in the fourth round but Takam came out in the fight with an aggressive plan and both men traded some pretty hurtful hooks to each other from close range in the exciting fifth round.
In the sixth round, Gashi finally was showing signs of fatigue as he was wobbling backward along the ropes. This was the crucial opportunity for Takam who ended the fight in the next round.
With a short right-hand punch, Gashi was dropped by the ropes and Takam sensing that the end is near pushed on with his barrage of punches. Takam delivered another left hook to produce yet another knockdown. Referee mercifully intervened in the fight to declare Takam’s win.
