US Open; Naomi Osaka says that victory over Serena Williams feels strange

The winner of this year’s US Open tournament; Naomi Osaka is still overcoming the shock of gaining victory over Serena Williams.

Osaka told media that her maiden Grand Slam title win with 6-2, 6-4 on the Saturday match with Serena Williams has denied Serena of leveling the title held of 24 Grand Slam singles titles held only by Margaret Court.

The main reason the match was overshadowed is mainly due to the sudden outburst of Serena on court. During this outburst she even accused the Chair umpire Carlos Ramos of being both “a Liar and a Thief”.

Osaka about her victory said to media that, “it feels like a dream and I still don’t feel like it is reality even though I am holding the trophy. With every passing hour, all of it seems more real. It is amongst all the things in my memory that I am going to cherish”.

Ramos was heavily jeered at and booed by crowd after he gave Williams an initial code violation for on-court coaching, a penalty for smashing her racket and the third game penalty for branding the umpire as a thief.

Williams even refused to shake hands with Carlos after the match and even accused him of “sexism” in her past match interview.

Osaka is also understanding about the reaction fans at the Asher Stadium on Saturday. She said to media, “I cloud really feel for them. Serena is a crowd favorite. It was US Open; it was in America and in New York. I knew that everyone really wanted her to win their 24th Grand Slam.”

She further added, “as far as I am concerned, I felt like a kid. I am sure that if I was in the crowd I would have also been cheering for Serena as well. I am really grateful that they were so kind to me. This was my first Grand Slam so I am really grateful for it”.
