Vic Open; James Nitties sets European Tour birdie record as Nick Flanagan leads

James Nitties of Australia managed to tie the world record by making 9 consecutive birdies on ISPS Handa Vic Open’s low scoring day. His fellow Australian player Nick Flanagan is at the lead with two shots.

Nitties current world record tie was originally performed by former Open champion Mark Calcavecchia who achieved this feat back in 2009 at the Canadian Open.

Nitties also followed a double-double bogey on the 14th hole of the Beach Course, which was his fifth hole of the day at the 13th Beach Golf Club.

Nitties said to media, “I had the chance for that 10th birdie but I did not want to break the record. It is just such a long time standing record and I would not do that mark. It is good to hold it with him. I am pumped; I don’t hold any other world records. So, to be part of one is really cool.”

This tournament is being co-sanctioned by the European Tour and LPGA; featuring both men and women playing on the same courses at the same time as they will also share the equal prize money.
