West Indies wins their first game with Kieron Pollard as the captain against Afghanistan

The tenure of Kieron Pollard with West Indies started off with a win as the Windies inflicted a 10th defeat in a row on the same format playing against Afghanistan. This time they got the 7-wicket win in a match held in Lucknow.

Afghanistan had already lost all of their 9 games back at the Cricket World Cup held in summer at Wales and England. This also includes their 23-run reverse on victory against the West Indies in the final game of the World Cup held at Headingly.

As for West Indies, they made back to back victories against Afghanistan led by Rashid Khan on Wednesday in India. They dispatched their opponents during their batting innings with 194 runs off of 45.2 overs and then chased that target to completion with 21 balls to spare.

Evin Lewis with his 7 runs and Shimron Hetmyer with his 3 runs very first to fell out on the batting order of Windies as the team fell to 25-2 but then Roston Chase with his 94 runs and Shai Hope with his 77 runs had a 163-run third-wicket partnership.

Still, Chase was not able to complete his first ODI victory as he got bowled out on Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s delivery.

As for Afghanistan, they earlier had 126-2 at the start of their batting order with Rahmat Shah scoring 61 runs and Ikram Ali Khil scoring 58 runs. Ikram Ali Khil was also the one who hit the half-centuries in the matches of Afghanistan VS Wet Indies t the Cricket World Cup as he put 111 runs third-wicket partnership.

However, once Ikram’s wicket fell, the Afghan batting order started to collapse. Afghanistan then lost 4 wickets by making only 42 as they slipped to score of 158-6 and the only major partnership after that was of 33 runs between Gulbadin Naib and Asghar Afghan.

The 3-match series will now continue at the very same venue once more on Saturday and then concludes on Monday.
