WWE: Tommaso Ciampa to vacate his NXT title after gruesome neck injury

Tomasso Ciampa is forced to vacate his NXT championship title after he had to undergo major neck surgery.

The 33 years old wrestler was due for a title defense fight against wrestler Johnny Gargano on Friday at the NXT TakeOver in Brooklyn, which is the part of the WrestleMania weekend.

Ciampa was forced to relinquish his NXT title following the anterior cervical fusion, which is a procedure that has a rehabilitation time period of 9 months.

Ciampa also suffered an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) rupture back in May of 2017 for which he underwent surgery and was out of the wrestling until Jan of 2018. He was featured on Feb of 2018 at the Raw and SmackDown to be one of the 4 NXT fighters to b called up on the main roster.

As for Gargano, he is still going to be fighting for the belt next month which will be held at Barclay’s Center. His opponent will be decided by a fatal five-way fight on this week’s NXT episode.
