Juan Martin del Potro going to miss the Wimbledon as he undergoes surgery for his fractured knee

Juan Martin del Potro had to withdraw from this year’s Wimbledon tournament after he suffered from a right knee cap fracture during his first round match held at the Fever-Tree Championships at the Queen’s Club.

Juan Martin del Potro, the world rank no. 12 had to then pull out of the warn up Wimbledon tournament earlier on Wednesday. Del Potro slipped in his match against Denis Shapovalov that resulted in his knee to swell up. He left the match and went for further medical evaluation and his worst fears came true.  He suffered from a right knee cap fracture.

Jorge Vaile, the agent of del Potro released the following statement on his twitter account,

“The medical studies done last night in a clinic in London show that Juan Martin Del Potro has suffered again a fracture in the right patella. After consultation with his doctor, Angel Cotorro, it has been determined that it will require surgery. This will take place in the next couple of days with a date and location to be determined. We will keep you informed.”

Del Potro has been known for being very unlucky when it comes to sports injuries throughout his career. This time, it is the second time in a period of less than 1 year that he has suffered from a fracture of the same knee cap.

His first fracture was back in October when playing at the Shanghai Masters. He underwent surgery and made a return back in February but had to remain sidelined due to pain. He has played in only 5 tournaments this season.
