Cori Gauff at age 15 becomes the youngest qualifier in the history of Wimbledon

Cori Gauff, the American tennis star has become the youngest player to have ever qualify for the women’s singles main draw of the Wimbledon at the age of 15-year-old since the time the Open era started back in 1968.

Gauff, the world rank no. 301 who happens to be 15 years and 122 days old earlier defeated the world rank no. 129 Greet Minnen during their final round of the qualifying rounds by 6-1 and 6-1 earlier on Thursday.

Gauff is hoping to be the first person under the age of 16 who is going to be handed a wildcard entry for the Wimbledon main draw. The last one was the British player Laura Robinson who was also 15 years old at the time.

Guff said, “I am still in shock that I am going to play in the main draw of the Wimbledon. My first memory of watching Wimbledon was seeing Serena play and I think that she won. I don’t know which year it was; she has won so many of them.”

Gauff, who is a Georgia born and Florida based player from America, will now be the 12trh young player to have competed in women’s singles at a Grand Slam since 1968.

Gauff has also won the French Open juniors at the age of 14 and has also made it to the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Junior last year.
