Breakdancing a step closer for inclusion in the 2024 Paris Olympics

Breakdancing has managed to be a step closer for being included in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The members of the International Olympics Committee have endorsed a request formally back in February from Paris along with a request from their executive board back in March to add the breakdancing provisionally in the program. As for the final decision on this request for inclusion, it is pending until December of 2020.

In addition to Breakdancing, Paris wants to add a total of four sports with the rest of them being skateboarding, surfing and sport climbing, to make their debut in the Tokyo Olympics next year.

Two other sports that the Japanese added in 2020, the baseball and karate, have been dropped by Paris.

Another sport that was in contention for being in the 2024 Olympics was Squash but it also did not make the cut.

Thomas Bach, The IOC president said in a statement that all the four sports proposed for Paris 2024 are in line with the 2020 Olympic Agenda plans for making these games more diverse as well as urban and appealing to the younger audiences.

As of now, organizers of the Paris 2024 are searching for a venue where they can stage breakdancing.

The president of Paris 2024, Tony Estanguet said, “It is important for us to take the sports out of a stadium and into the heart of the city.”
