Dominic Thiem defeated Albert Ramos Vinolas at the final of Generali Open by 7-6 and 6-1 to win his career’s 14th ATP title which is his first title win in Austria.
During the last week of the Austrian clay-court tournament, the 4th ranked Austrian player did not drop a single set and called his title win to be a childhood dream come true to win a tournament in high alps of Austria.
Thiem said, “this is an incredibly great feeling as this was one of my biggest dreams when is started playing tennis.” Thiem said this telling what he had always wanted to win a title in Austria ever since he was only 6 years old.
Thiem made it to the final of winning the Kitzbuehel title once in the past back in 2014 but he, unfortunately, lost against David Goffin.
25 years old Austrian player said, “There is nothing better than for an athlete to have such an achievement in front of their own home crowd.”
The only other players who have won 3 tournament titles in this season are Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
Thiem ended the winning spree of Vinolas who came to this tournament after making it to the semi-finals of the Bastad Open in Sweden and after winning his 2nd title of the career at the Gstaad Open in Switzerland two weeks ago.
