The man who defended his UFC heavyweight title successfully 3 times in the past will now have the chance to defend it once more.
A grueling battle between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier on Saturday night’s UFC 241 ended with a victory for Stipe who lost his fight against Cormier one year ago. Stipe, with a career record of 19-3 MMA and 13-3 UFC was able to win over Cormier, whose career record is 22-2 MMA and 11-2 UFC with a late flurry of punches in the 4th round of the event held at the Honda Center.
The fight was ended by a TKO verdict on the 4:09 mark of the round.
Stipe said, “I simply saw some weakness in him dring the 3rd round and then in the 4th I was able to catch him good with a right punch. Thank God for this win, because he is a tough one.”
The first round saw Stipe trying to sprawl against Cormier but he still picked him and performed a mat slam. The round was in total control of Cormier while Stipe tired to only defend and was able to move into the 2nd round.
However, it was 2nd round that was the essence of a UFC fight as carnage started. Both fighters traded ferocious punches against each other for 5 straight minutes and neither of them seemed to be worried about their defenses.
Then the pace of both fighters slowed down a bit dring the 3rd round but Stipe was clearly looking fresher of the 2 fighters as he started landing more punches on Cormier.
It was in this round that Stipe was able to land his first counter of the fight. Cormier also managed to deal damage with his punches but it was clear for everyone to see that he was starting to lose control of the fight big time.
In the 4th, Stipe came with full force and added in devastating body shots to which Cormier had no answer. A pair of right hands was the finishing touch to send Corer to the fence and Stipe unleashed a flurry of punches. It was at this moment, that referee came in to wave off the fight in Stipe’s favor.
